The YALE CITATIONS
MEET the Citations!

Avnika Bali
Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry
Member since Fall 2018
(she/her)
Avnika is a fifth-year in the BBS PhD program who hails from Ohio, the beautiful land of endless cornfields. Aside from holing up in lab, she can be found at home experimenting with food recipes or finding internet memes. Avnika loves good music and good puns, which often fall flat and get her into major treble.

Dalton Meyer
Geology & Geophysics
Dalton is a fifth-year PHD student in the geology department studying paleontology. Meaning he has both the dream job and wardrobe of a first grader. Hailing from the alpine wonderland of Colorado, he is still trying to figure out the best local beer. Otherwise, he can be found looking for new board games to try and listening to too many podcasts.

Elyse Lynch
School of Public Health
Member since Fall 2022
(she/her)
Elyse is a first year MPH student in Healthcare Management. She grew up in Ireland, which means drinking tea is apart of her personality. She loves cooking without a recipe, attempting (and failing) to surf, and trying to keep all her houseplants alive.

Gayelan Tietje-Ulrich
School of Nursing
Member since Fall 2022

Jiwon Yun
Sociology
Member since Fall 2020
(he/him)
Jiwon is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Sociology. He was born in South Korea, but grew up in Sri Lanka where he attended a British school, which means that he is quite a disoriented soul. Starting his program on Zoom did not help much with his already poor coordination. Perhaps, this is why he is very familiar with Yale’s Lockout Assistance. Other than music, Jiwon is very passionate about languages and travel, and hopes to visit at least 25 states before he finishes his degree (12 + DC and counting!).

Joon Lee
Neuroscience
Member since Fall 2016
(he/him)
Joon is a sixth-year graduate student in the Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program. A transplant from Los Angeles, he still struggles getting used to living in the other side of the country, but has slowly come to appreciate (some of) the seasons. When not singing or poking C. elegans worms, Joon enjoys trying new food, playing board and video games, listening to podcasts, and getting into morningly shenanigans with Ryan.

Kathryn Berg
Genetics
Member since Fall 2018
(she/her)
Kathryn is a fifth-year student in the BBS PhD program. She's a dog enthusiast, samurai jack fanatic and steminist. When she hasn't locked herself in lab, you can find her trying to convince people to watch Swiss Army Man (seriously, watch it), and scouting for free food and coffee.

Kelly Wang
Department of Statistics and Data Science
Member since Fall 2022
(she/her)
Kelly Wang is an incoming Yale Masters student in her first year. She studied applied math and psychology in undergrad but the sad reality is that to this day, she still catches herself counting on her fingers and having the occasional existential confusion. She's currently studying Data Science and Stats... meaning, a day in the life would involve flipping tabs between uploading her next 3 youtube videos and then trying to find a small mistake in 300 lines of code... with clenched arthur fists.

Kevin R. Parducho
Cell Biology
Member since Fall 2021
(he/him)
Living up to the Filipino stereotype, Kevin loves to sing and karaoke - in the lab, at his favorite Gryphon's pub, or with the Yale Citations, no place is safe. Aside from singing and being in the lab, Kevin also enjoys playing tennis, eating as much food as his stipend allows, or simply just sleeping for hours relaxing at home.

Kevin Evan Pataroque
Environmental Engineering
Member since Fall 2021
(he/him)
The other Filipino Kevin P. in the Citations, Kevin Pataroque is a second-year Environmental Engineering Ph.D. student originally from Portland, Oregon. When he's not testing membranes in the lab or making funky percs with the Citations, you might find him running around Connecticut, writing bad poetry, making pencil sketches, or crashing free food events by posing as an undergraduate.

Maya Urbschat
Affiliate
Member since Fall 2017
(she/her)
Maya is a software developer by day, and Music Director of the Citations by night. When she isn't singing, she keeps busy by composing and arranging music, drawing a webcomic, and playing Dungeons and Dragons. She hopes to eventually be reincarnated as a fruit bat.

Olivia Justynski
Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology
Member since Fall 2016
(she/her)
Olivia is a sixth-year PhD student in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology and the current Business Manager for the Citations. Originally from Rhode Island, she studied applied math as an undergraduate at Mount Holyoke College, where she learned that she should definitely become a biologist instead of a mathematician. Her hobbies include playing intramural softball, listening to podcasts, and appreciating the finer points of campy science fiction.

Paulina Perez-Curiel
School of Medicine, PA
Member since Fall 2022
(she/her)
I am a second year student in the physician associate program at Yale. I drove all the way from sunny San Diego, California in the Summer of 2021 with my husband and my little Shih Tzu, Coca. When not in the hospital or the classroom, I enjoy weightlifting, listening to crime podcasts, watching TV, hanging out with friends, and eating some Archie Moore's.

Raman Nelakanti
School of Medicine, Genetics
Raman is a student from USA, North America. He enjoys singing in a cappella groups and exploring the great outdoors. Who is he really and what does he do? No one knows. If you would like more information, please submit all inquiries to the Yale Citations.

Rohin McIntosh
Physics
Member since Fall 2021
(he/him)
Rohin is a second year physics PhD student working with high energy lasers and other dangerous electronics. In his free time, he loves practicing the piano, playing badminton, and singing on campus as part of the Citations and the Yale Camerata.

Sam Shipman
Earth and Planetary Sciences
Member since Fall 2021
(he/him)
Sam is a second-year Ph.D. student in Earth and Planetary Sciences studying geochemistry. Originally from northern California, Sam still does not understand the meaning of the word “turnpike” and is thoroughly confused by the extra cold rain that falls during winter. When he’s not in the lab, Sam enjoys hiking/camping, both good and bad movies, and drinking coffee at all hours of the day. He should probably get more sleep.

Savannah Olroyd
Department of Earth and Planetary Science
Member since Fall 2022
(she/her)
Savannah is a postdoctoral researcher studying paleontology. She is from Portland, Oregon and has never seen the sun. Savannah is an avid crafter and a hopeless nerd, which leads to an obscene amount of handmade Pokemon plushies and 3D printed DnD miniatures. Sometimes she even finishes them. She can be summoned by talking about rabbits.

Shreya Reddy
Law School
Member since Fall 2022
(she/her)
Shreya is a first-year student in the Law School and a proud Michigander. When she’s not buried in a casebook or singing show tunes, she can be found practicing her tennis forehand, perfecting a cheesecake recipe, or café-hopping in search of some good chai.
