MEET the Citations!

Alisa White
Law School
Member since Fall 2019

Alisa is a first-year law student (1L) from outside of Albany, New York. She really likes trees and is a nerd, so she spends most of her time outside or googling environmental litigation in the Law School library. In her undergrad dayz, she sang with the Dartmouth Dodecaphonics and, wow, she could not be more thrilled to be back at it with the Citations

Avnika Bali
Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry
Member since Fall 2018

Avnika is a second-year in the BBS PhD program who hails from Ohio, the beautiful land of endless cornfields. Aside from holing up in lab, she can be found at home experimenting with food recipes or finding internet memes. Avnika loves good music and good puns, which often fall flat and get her into major treble.

Caitlin Parmer-Chow
School of Medicine

Caitlin is a fourth year medical student from San Diego, California. But after living on the East Coast for 9 years, she has finally realized what this winter thing is. In her free time, she enjoys sitting near heaters and wearing coats. When not cowering from the cold, Caitlin loves to play volleyball and scuba dive. Caitlin previously sang with the Yale a cappella groups Proof of the Pudding and Whim ‘n Rhythm!

Member since Fall 2015
Chris Chow-Parmer
School of Medicine
Member since Fall 2018

Chris is a third-year student at the School of Medicine. Originally from Orinda, California, Chris has spent the past 10 years on the east coast and is starting to get the hang of tasteful layering. In his spare time, Chris enjoys skiing, scuba diving, and ice hockey, i.e. anything involving a technological upgrade to the human foot.

Dalton Meyer
Geology & Geophysics
Member since Fall 2018

Dalton is a second-year PHD student in the geology department studying paleontology. Meaning he has both the dream job and wardrobe of a first grader. Hailing from the alpine wonderland of Colorado, he is still trying to figure out the best local beer. Otherwise, he can be found looking for new board games to try and listening to too many podcasts.

David McIntosh
School of Nursing

United States Naval Aviator LT David "Maverick" McIntosh and his Radar Intercept Officer LTJG Nick "Goose" Bradshaw fly the F-14A Tomcat aboard USS Enterprise (CVN-65). During an interception with two hostile aircraft, Maverick gets missile lock on one, while the other hostile aircraft gets missile lock on Maverick's wingman, Cougar. Maverick then flies inverted above that remaining hostile aircraft to give the other pilot the finger.

Hannah Ruben
School of Nursing
Member since Fall 2018

Hannah comes from the San Francisco Bay Area where seasons do not exist and apple cider donuts are hard to come by. After spending some time after undergrad working in the healthcare setting (and a random stint in textile design), she has found her way here and is currently studying to become a pediatric nurse practitioner through the Yale School of Nursing. The Citations is her perfect outlet to sing, dance, and be silly with some of the coolest people in Connecticut!!

Ilana Usiskin
School of Medicine
Member since Fall 2016

Ilana is a fourth-year medical student from Mendham, New Jersey. When not singing or learning about diseases, she spends her time running, hiking, and dreaming about travel. While an undergraduate student at Yale, Ilana sang with the a cappella group Proof of the Pudding.

Jocelyn Knazik Phelps
Affiliate
Member since Fall 2018

Jocelyn is a reproductive genetic counselor with Yale Maternal-Fetal Medicine. She is originally from Maryland, most recently lived in Philly for grad school, and does not plan on moving any further north. She spends her free time listening to podcasts, playing board games, and bothering her two cats (named after Star Wars characters).

Joon Lee
Neuroscience
Member since Fall 2016

Joon is a third-year graduate student in the Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program. A transplant from Los Angeles, he still struggles getting used to living in the other side of the country, but has slowly come to appreciate (some of) the seasons. When not singing or poking C. elegans worms, Joon enjoys trying new food, playing board and video games, listening to podcasts, and getting into morningly shenanigans with Ryan.

Kathryn Berg
Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology
Member since Fall 2018

Kathryn is a second-year student in the BBS PhD program. She's a dog enthusiast, samurai jack fanatic and raging steminist. When she hasn't locked herself in lab, you can find her getting emotional over BoJack Horseman, trying to convince people to watch Swiss Army Man (seriously, watch it), and scouting for free food and coffee.

Kristina Klara
School of Medicine

Kristina is a 3rd year medical student from Little Rhody, otherwise known as Rhode Island. When she's not pretending to study, she is usually watching TV. She also likes reading, cooking, eating ice cream, and exercising because she ate too much ice cream.

Maya Urbschat
Affiliate

Maya is a software developer by day, and Music Director of the Citations by night. When she isn't singing, she keeps busy by composing and arranging music, drawing a webcomic, and playing Dungeons and Dragons. She hopes to eventually be reincarnated as a fruit bat.

Myles Alderman
Genetics
Member since Fall 2019

Myles is a third year graduate student in the Genetics department. After attending Kenyon College in the very flat place that is Ohio (where he sang in the Ransom Notes), he is glad to be back in his home state near the ocean and mountains. When not wranging cells or singing with the Citations, he can be found exploring New England by hiking, skiing, or flying. For more information on Myles, shout your questions into the clear night sky and await a response.

Nick Davies
School of Nursing
Member since Fall 2019

Nick is a first year family nurse practitioner student from Washington State. In keeping with stereotypes of the Pacific Northwest, Nick loves to drink copious amounts of coffee, wear flannel, and hike (and preferably do all three at the same time)! Before Yale, Nick was working in Cambodia where he was often found napping in hammocks or eating fried bananas. Nick is beyond excited to be singing with the Citations this year!

Olivia Justynski
Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology
Member since Fall 2016

Olivia is a fourth-year PhD student in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology and the current Business Manager for the Citations. Originally from Rhode Island, she studied applied math as an undergraduate at Mount Holyoke College, where she learned that she should definitely become a biologist instead of a mathematician. Her hobbies include playing intramural softball, listening to podcasts, and appreciating the finer points of campy science fiction.

Paul Fanto
Physics

Paul is a Ph.D. student in physics.  When not writing equations or singing with the Citations, he can usually be found running around East Rock or at the tables down at GPSCY.

Member since Fall 2016
Rajshekhar Basak
Molecular Biophysics

Raj Basak is a third year student in the Molecular Biophysics PhD program. Although born in India and raised in the Middle East, NYC will forever be his home. While not p-setting, Raj likes to play the piano, cook weird meals, make pottery and drink unusual sodas. He is ecstatic to be singing with the Citations!

Raman Nelakanti
School of Medicine, Genetics
Member since Fall 2018

Raman is a student from USA, North America. He enjoys singing in a cappella groups and exploring the great outdoors. Who is he really and what does he do? No one knows. If you would like more information, please submit all inquiries to the Yale Citations.

Ryan Handoko
School of Medicine
Member since Fall 2016

Ryan is a fourth-year medical student originally from Claremont, California, though has spent much of his adult life vagabonding the Eastern Seaboard. He absolutely loves dumpster diving, napping in cars, and infectious diseases. When not studying or drinking obscene quantities of Fairlife milk, Ryan can be found scavenging free food at Yale, trying to convince people to play Dominion, and getting into nightly shenanigans with Joon.
